    1. Immediate Safety

    • Stop immediately. Never leave the scene.
    • If safe, move out of traffic.
    • Turn on hazards; use flares if available.
    • Check yourself and others for injuries.

    2. Call for Help

    • Call 911 for injuries, immediate danger, blocked traffic, or suspected impairment.
    • Ask responders whether a report will be made, and how to get its number or copy.
    • Stick to facts. Do not guess, admit fault, or apologize as if you caused the crash.
    • Follow responder instructions.

    3. Evidence Capture

    If it is safe, photos and video may help document what happened.

    • Wide shots of entire scene
    • Close-ups of all vehicle damage
    • License plates of all vehicles
    • Road signs, traffic lights, skid marks
    • Other driver's insurance card & ID

    • Some injuries are not obvious right away, including concussion or internal bleeding. Contact a medical professional promptly about symptoms or concerns; seek emergency help for severe or worsening symptoms.
    • Notify your insurer promptly; check your policy for its reporting deadline.
    • Keep a log of calls, claim numbers, and names.
    • Do not sign a document you do not understand. Ask what it does first, and get advice before releases or settlements.
